B20 engine noise mystery 140-160

I posted the question of what sounded like a cracked piston or gudgeon a few weeks back. Tom and I pulled the engine down to find bits of metal and filings in the sump. The big end bearings were scored and some worn right through, the crank has grooves and needs machining badly. The reason for this we found was a lifter had been left in the motor las time it was rebuilt. We only found the top half inch of the lifter and it was jammed up inside a piston, the rest I'd say was ground up and went through the motor. It's a real mess, I'm surprised it ran for so long. We should have our new hot motor built this week. Matt.
