16v, #3 misses when cold. Injector? 700 1990

I think I might need to replace one or all injectors on my 16v. First, what are the symptoms of a failing injector? Currently it is missing out on #3 when cold and after about 5-60 seconds it will start hitting. It does this predictably every morning and did it once on the highway for about 10 seconds. Recently replaced: plugs, coil, dist., rotor, main fuel pump. Most of those were replaced because I was looking for another problem; now fixed. I haven't replaced the plug wires yet as they are kind of expensive. Is it possible to make them? I've seen 8mm spark plug wire available by the foot for that purpose. Is it a good idea?
Secondly, Are injectors interchangable? I've heard of people putting bigger injectors in their cars to meet higher fuel needs from other mods. I assume that if all is working, the o2 sensor should compensate for more/less injector output. I realize you probably can't put vw rabbit injectors in it but something close maybe b230 or something comperable.

Thanks
- Nate
