'88 765, No spark @ plugs or coil, coil has 12 vlts primary, 700 1988

After writing this I went to the FAQs (duh) and found some precedures which I will now go and check. I'll report back.

I have a no spark problem. Before I start just changing parts I'd like to troubleshoot to the best of my abilities. I connected a plug wire and plug to the coil to see if the coil would at least put out a spark while cranking, no go. I thought that if I applied and removed 12 vlts from the coil I should get a spark, but again no go. I have removed the dist and inspected it for bad wires and cleaned all connection but it still has no spark.

I should add that when it was real cold this winter (-4 F)I had several no starts and always got it going by removing and cleaning the gas soaked plugs, cranking the engine over with the injectors disabled, reinstalling the plug and starting again with a freshly chaged batt.
