donor for variable intermittent wiper switch - 700? 200 1988

I am looking for an elegant way of making the intermittent windscreen wipe frequencey variable. Ideal solution would be replacing the wiper control stalk with another that has this added feature.

Do 700s have this feature, and if yes are the steering-column switches interchangeable with the 200s? Also, is there any more to it than just a variable resistor on the stalk?
