Intake manifold coming off to R&R breather box..I think I'll hate this when trying to put the manifold nuts back on. 200 1988

Son came home from college, had the oil pumping out of the filler cap. Removed the flame trap, hoses, brass nipple and cleaned them all. Gummed up for sure. But, got one of them genius ideas to see if some cleaner would 'flow' down the hose through the breather box. Didn't flow like I though it should, so remembering many posts about cleaning the breather I started taking the intake manifold loose, because of the extra room I would gain. Got dark and quit, will resume tomorrow (maybe). Question: is there an obstruction where the breather box hose connects onto the box? I poked around with a screwdriver and it feels like I hit something hard. Could be just gunk.(?) When the nuts go back on the manifold studs, or fall to ground as the case may be, I will probably be mumbling considerably but will be most happy with a clear breathing brick.
