93 960 sticking exhaust valves looking at a head removal. 900

Okay, I have read the 960 information and bought the green volvo service manual. I am now trying to psycho myself into doing the head removal thing. Before I do this awesome task should I try to decarbonize the engine? I gave it a half hearted try with cold water but not a full blown effort with synthetic oil and the GM decabonizing product. This engine got like this from using regular oil and not being run hard. In the past the decarb routine has not fixed sticking valves in V8 motors. I guess I just want someone to tell me to go ahead and bite the bullet and get it over with. I fell better already just posting on the brick....Thanks and HI BC.....
