89' 740 radio code 700 1989

I recently put my 740 turbo back on the road, while it was in storage the battery died. i have the code for my radio and am positive that it is the right code. my problem is that the display on the radio says "OFF". Its been like this for a few days now. Dose anyone know how to make the radio say code? I have tried disconnecting it, turning the radio on and off, turning the car on and off. I dont know what else to do. I'm at a loss and getting very fustrated any advice would be helpful. Thank in advance
