Did the rear suspension this weekend 200 1987

Yesterday I installed Sachs Advantage rear shocks, turbo (21 mm) rear swaybar (put in the 23 mm front bar last autumn) and springs from a wagon. A significant difference in the turns, and not much comfort lost – if any. I am now building up courage for replacing also the front shocks, perhaps I’ll better leave it to the shop.

Spurred by the many bushing discussions I took out one of the torque rods, only to see some nice, black bushings stare up at me. No cracks or other apparent damages, so I just put it back in. This is a great forum, but it tends to get me carried away at times!

The wagon springs raised the rear end by 35 mm, slightly more than expected. Does anyone have any experience with those spring compression clamps? Most of my driving is done with an empty car, but I need the stiffer springs when I’m hauling the boat.

This winter I got hold of a nice set of Virgos with worn 205/60 Fulda tires. It is time for summer tires anyway, so I put them on the car just to enjoy the good looks. As the wide tires made the car terrible to drive on furrowed roads, the new tires will be 195/60. Continental Premium Contacts get great reviews over here, so I think I’ll go for those. But boy how the fat tires take the corners!

Erling.
