Sunroof button question 700

I have a 1989 760 turbo sedan. The button controlling the sunroof/moonroof acts up every now and then. By acting up, I mean that I can open the moonroof with it, however, it takes quite a while of me constantly playing with the button to get it to close.

Anyone have any idea of how to fix this?

If the answer is to take the button out and clean it, I tried to remove the plastic trim piece that appears to be holding this and the other buttons on the right side of the steering wheel on. I got about 80% of it off but couldn't get the trim piece to release from over the buttons. I was afraid to put too much pressure on it for fear that I would break or crack the trim piece. So if I have to take this trim piece off, any suggestions on how to do this.

Thanks for any help those on this board can give me.

Sincerely,

92Wahoo
