no spark: 1982 Volvo GL Wag, auto, non-turbo, 4 cyl, CIS FI 200 1982

Posted on Google too.

Hi All,

I haven't had any problems for a while and now the cars is dead. Here
are the vitals:

1982 Volvo GL Wagon, Automatic, non-turbo, 4 cylinder, CIS fuel
injected.

The car died 2 years ago away from home and the mechanic replaced the
ignition module. I also replaced the intank and external fuel pump
again 2 years ago.

Using Hanyes green book to troubleshoot.

Replaced the battery and alternator since one wasn't charging and the
other was starting to leak last month. It was also time to smog the
car so I did, and it passed straight away only needing a new gas cap.
Fine.

For the last couple of months the cars has been missing and stalling
without notice, generally the car ran fine. I would unplug the
ignition module and reseat the connector, and or unplug the coil power
and ground wires and reseat them. The car would then run fine.

The ignition module on my car is #1317873.

Last Saturday the car died, reseating the connectors on the ignition
module and coild did no good. It's dead.

No spark at the plugs.
No spark when testing the coil.
Coil primary is not open, so I assume it's good enough.
12 volts getting to ignition module.
12 volts getting to coil.
No spark when shorting out B&C on distributor electrical connector,
both sides.

Went to the junk yard and installed a ignition module #1317874
whichwas different, no start. I hope I didn't screw up the other
parts. <===

Drove all over to various junk yards and found a correct p/n #1317873,
and installed it, no start. (could it be that I grabbed a dead unit?
I'm assuming I got a dead on, and will go back and get another that I
found at the same spot.

I'm at wits end, mentally beat, and feeling dejected.

Fuses seem okay on the kick panel location.

I was not able to test: coolant temperature sensor, which is not
visible.

I could certainly use some tips to get the car up and running again.

-Wynn
