Exhaust smell in cabin fixed: FYI 700

About a month ago I posted a message describing an exhaust smell filling the inside of my 92 745t SE after hard acceleration (eg. getting on the freeway). I checked the tailgate seal and the one-way vacuum valves on the AC vacuum lines under the hood. I found nothing defective or out of the ordinary. I was beginning to think that I was just going to have to live with the occasional smell.

Last week I replaced the tailpipe after seeing a rusted through spot near the outlet. After removing the pipe from the car I discovered that a 3\4 inch (2cm) wide strip along the top of the s-shaped pipe had completely rusted away. After installing the new tailpipe ($11 US from FCP Groton)I can now put the hammer down with no fumes filling up the cabin of my beloved brick.

Hope this helps and drive safe.
