ebay vaccuum to pull out air from A/C R12 200

Can I use one of those air vaccuum pumps they sell on ebay:

To connect to my air compressor and vaccuum out my R12 system (R234 nipples adapted to compressor) on my 240 sedan '89, add one can ester oil and 3 cans R134 to "retrofit" my A/C from R12 to R134?

All this assuming no major leak and vaccuum/pressure holds... The system has been inoperable for 2 years. Do I REALLY need to replace the dryer?

I live in canada, in the summer we need A/C but it's usually not Texas heat...

I started this last year but did not know I needed to pull the vaccuum... by that time the extreme summer heat was over...
