Fuel injector cleaner 200 1980

Can anyone share information about the bottled fuel injector cleaner that you mix with a tank of fuel? Is it safe? Not recommended? The tiny allen-key adjustment screw on the fuel head of my 1980 244 is dodgy and causing some idling problems -- i only have to tap it to alter the idle between 800-1500 rpm, which I suspect is the cause of my poor fuel economy. Am thinking of injecting some cleaner . . . or is this a bad idea?
