Radio Static 200 1991

Radio has static that comes and goes. Cassette plays great, no static.

Took out glove box, and pulled radio partly out. Messing with antenna plug got me nowhere. Messing with black plastic round plug next to it seemed to make a difference.
Got radio playing well, but when put back in, it sounds bad. There is pressure against this round plastic plug because it it pushed up against the heater hoses and other junk.

Has anyone else been through this? I'm considering doing some surgery on the plastic plug to make it shorter.

Suggestions would be appreciated.
