Not your run of the mill idle problem! 200 1980

Here is my problem: 1980 242 DL, B21F, K-jet. I’ve been having a high idle problem where the idle would stick between 1500 and 2000 rpm. I could “kick it out” though, while in neutral of course, to bring it back down to 900 – 1000 rpm. Saturday I changed the injector seals (Whoa those things were rock hard!!, practically crumbled off.). I was hoping that the new seals would cure my idle problem, assuming it was a vacuum leak. No Luck.

Now after some extremely slow, dry sounding cranks it will start (sometimes). I’ve gotten it to idle at 900 for about 30 seconds and then the idle will all of a sudden drop to like 200 and then it’ll bounce back to 1500 or 2000 and stay there unless I “kick it out”. I’ve also recently replaced the fuel pump relay and set the timing (in that 30 second window) and throttle.

Does the ignition coil affect the idle? I’m really fishing here.

Thanks
Marty
