Radio Static 200 1991

I'm not sure what you mean by "messing" with the antenna connection but that antenna plug at the radio is an electrical weak point. Cheap on nearly all cars. What can happen is the part of the connector which just squeezes the outer metal shield braid on the antenna will come loose. Then two things can happen. The braid, which is the antenna ground, will make poor contact with the connector and the radio. Result is static and poor AM reception. Your FM may still be OK. The other thing that can happen is the loose clamp on the braid will allow the coax cable to pull back breaking the center wire connection. In that case you probably will have no AM and only weak FM.
