Real axle dilemma 700 1988

Jim,

Yes, you found the speedo sending unit/rear ABS sensor (if equiped). There is a fill plug on the rear of the housing. (13mm bolt) To access the bolt, jack up the rear of the car and put it on stands. The rear axle will hang down enough for good access.

SOME of the early axles have drain plugs. (my '85 745 does, my '94 945 does not) To drain the oil for an axle without a plug, just remove one of the 12mm diff cover bolts. (the lowest one. =)) Heck, if you are down there, why NOT change the oil instead of just topping it up?
