eBay Volvo -- UPDATE 200 1990

First, thanks so much for all of your advice on this subject. It was overwhelming!

So, here is where we are at. Won the auction at $2125. Got $500 back when I picked up the car. Yesterday, I wrote them a letter listing all of the issues with the car and how much it will cost to be repaired. They responded with a phone number, which I promptly forwarded to my boyfriend (I'm a chicken, what can I say?). He and I decided that the best option was to get some money back. I'd already put about $500 into the car and felt that to turn around and buy another 240 wagon for the amount of cash that I had to spend would put us in the same situation. Inexpensive car needing work. In any case, we managed to get $300 back out of the guy. So, we got $800 back which will cover about half of the repairs. I got this car for $1300. It's the least expensive 240 that I have seen. I've looked at others and they wanted $2500 for a car needing at least $500 in work. Or $2000 for a car that is obviously in rough shape. I did see one for $1500 but there was SO much rust all over the place and the car had been in an accident and not repaired. (I did get a Carfax on my car in which the only accident was with a parked vehicle, but it was considered very minor).

Unfortunately, we don't have time to do the repairs ourselves. We need the car on the road yesterday. We would only have time to play with it on the weekends and anyway, he lives in NJ and I live in ME. The boyfriend really doesn't want me running around in the great northeast in a car with so much wrong with it and frankly, neither do I. So, we're going to get this stuff done...the stuff that needs to be done for safety's sake and to get the car inspected. Probably won't have the car back till late next week and then we'll start working on making it pretty (and un-stinky).

So, thanks again for all of your help and I'll let you know how it goes!

Have a great weekend,

Julie
