has anyone tried this? 700 1985

So my plan is to replace the injector seals this w/e, so I called the local indy Volvo shop that sells parts (hope to avoid dealer mark-up)to get the seals. The mechanic there seemed very surprised that I had to replace them. He said he hasn't replaced injector seals on a 740 in at least ten years so he dosn't even stock the seal kit. He then suggested using silicone to stop the leak! This shop has been around for 25yrs and they specialize in Volvo. Has anyone ever tried this? It seems like a haywire and duct-tape solution to me, but I'm not a guru by any stretch.
