410000 miles, and still going!! 200 1980

Congratulations! You get your mileage badges yet? You should, they're free!
I'm sure the Volvo people like to send out 4 at once!
I'm not sure exactly what it was about that particular year, but 1980s seem to be SO reliable. The highest mileage car I've ever been in was a 1980 242. It was on its third owner, in the same family (grandpa - dad - son). It had 505,000 on the clock and that was a couple years ago. It still didn't skip a beat.
Another friend's 1979 242GT went over 400000 and had never even been apart for a head gasket. That is amazing longevity to me and the whole reason, in my mind, for driving these cars forever. Total cost of ownership over that time period has to be SO LOW on a per-mile basis- I don't think any other vehicle can compare.
Me, I have every intention of getting all of mine to 300K, but hopefully they won't rust away first. The 87 is closest at 235K, then the 86 at 211K, the 88 at 199K, and the 91 at 180K.
