Clutch Cable Adjustment? 200

Hi Brickboarders,

My clutch ('86 240 200K+ miles) started slipping yesterday when under load in 2nd gear(and others too), so I thought I would get out the Bentley and see if I could adjust the cable as it seemed there was not enough "play" in the clutch cable.

Bentley says to turn the adjustment nut on the cable next to the fork so that there is 1-3mm of travel. That seems reasonable, but when I got under the car to adjust it -- the adjusting nut is rubber!! Am I totally missing something?? When I try to turn it, it just deforms and won't budge. What's up with that?

Any clues? Many thanks in advance!
