Compatability of wheels and rims 200

I really don't know too much about rims and sizes and what will fit what. I currently have a 1990 240DL Sedan. I want to get nicer rims. There is a 740GLE in the junkyard with a set of fairly nice rims - would they fit? A friend says that all I need to check is to see if they are 14" with 5 lugs. Is that true? If it is, could I just get any type of 14" rims with 5 lug holes? Thank you
