Is my alternator toast or is it just brushes? 200 1982

My brick has the 4cyl gas with the 70 ah Alternator. Car has 153K+ miles. Brushes on internal regulator measure 6mm & 7mm respectively. This is close to the low spec. If I change the brush assembly & internal regulator should this solve the problem or is the alternator just too old & worn after 153K+ miles ? regardless of the brushes is it at or near the end of its life?
