Hi All:

Just thought I'd pass this on to anyone thinking of rebuilding a B230FT with the Center Thrust Bearing. I've finished installing my 92 B230FT into a 1986 Turbo Wagon with 4 Speed O.D.

This was the direction I was told to go, on this board, as the 1986 engine was weak. Thanks guys, it paid off.

I decided to disect the 1986 engine to see how sick it was. Here goes:

(1)- Over .030" Bore wear.

(2)- Over .008" wear on the Rod Bearings (Down to the Copper Backing)

(3)- No Thrust Bearing (It fell into the pan). It looked like over 1/8" Crankshaft endplay.

(4)- Center Main Bearing spun, with the bore badly scored.

As you can see, this baby was sick. But it was till running with no Oil Smoke and pretty good Compression. This is quite a tribute to Volvo. Even with a bad design!!!! I replaced it beacause of excessive blowby, a leaking Rear Main Seal, low Oil Pressure and bearing noise. But still running at 70 mph on the highway!!!
