Coincidence or Not??? - High idle problem 200 1990

Something weird happened yesterday. Hopefully somebody can help me out.

I was attempting to track the down the source of my oil leak - probably the breather box but that's a story for another day...Anyway, I switched the gasket around and tightened the "teeth" on my oil cap. I removed the large hose from the flame trap to the throttle body area and also a hose (don't know what it's called) on the opposite side of the throttle body to check for oil contamination as suggested here. Also cleaned up leaks at the cap and in the rear main area so I can trace the source. Bear in mind that I have already cleaned or replaced the valve cover gasket, flame trap, ft hoses and intake nipple.

Then I began to run out of daylight and put everything back to together. Fired her up and she's idling at 2000 RPM's or more. Wouldn't kick down. I had to manually adjust the idle down. Still idled high this morning.

My question is assuming the cap seal was bad, did I restore proper vacuum to the system by switching it and tightening the "teeth"? Maybe the computer just needs time to adjust the idle - she did run smooth and strong on a test drive afterwards!!

OR - Is there a coincidental problem with the throttle position switch or plate? Plate out of adjustment or a bad switch?

Or perhaps the gas cable is hanging up?? I lubed the throttle linkage/cables but didn't have time to investigate the gas pedal area.
