center support bearing play 700 1991

Hi folks,
Just a quick one, did a search and found too much irrelevant info in the archives. Symptoms: when starting from idle, or at cruise, specifically between 2500-3500 RPM, there is a really nasty vibration from somewhere underneath the sedan. Checked the exhaust as I just had work done and no luck. I then check the obvious, the ujoints seem to be fine, there is no play at the output bearing but CONSIDERABLE at the center support. I am just curious as to how much "play" there should be in the center support bearing with the driveline, and how easy should it be to move. I am confident this is the problem but before declaring it as such I just wanted to know how much play there should be. As it is, I can with little force move the driveline about and pretty much hit the top/bottom/left/right of the limits of the center bearing device.
Like I said, I am pretty confident with my amateur diagnosis but just looking for some reassurance.
Thanks folks,
steve from MA
