On my '90 740 B230FT it is on the underneath of the exhaust downpipe, and can be felt with my hand from above the car. Put your hand underneath the exhaust pipe near the Turbo, and start moving it rearward: you'll feel it and its wire.

I just replaced mine, using an off-set crow's foot tool that attaches to a 3/8" ratchet. the tool was about $10 at Pep Boys. I was able to do the work from above. Spray first with plenty of PB Blaster.
