Headlight Cleaning 200 1989

Hi all. I am planning on cleaning/drying the headlight lenses on my 89 240. I was wondering if the headlight assembly needs to be removed to do this. Or if it is possible to remove the lens without removing the entire assembly. I was unable to find any true answer to this question before. It does appear to be easier to remove the entire assembly. All advice is appreciated. TIA.
