Need your collective wisdom 700

I'm seriously considering "rescueing" an '86 745 GLE automatic from an impound yard where it has been sitting for three years. The body and paint (white)are virtually blemish and rust free (southern car). The interior really needs work due to three years in hot sun. The red leather seats look restorable without major cracks. Vinyl trim is peeling away from backing in several places. Headliner is history. Engine is shot--apparent overheating victim. I've located a salvage replacement reasonably priced and a shop to install. I know there are many problems to consider, wiring harness, etc. Just wanted to hear from others who have tackled similar projects and learn about the surprises they had along the way.

I became a Volvo owner 11 years ago by accident when my recently divorced sister asked me to sell her 1982 245 GL. It's still in my driveway with 230k miles.
