What is the Proper way to store a Master Cylinder?? 700

Hola Bricksters:
I just bought a used Master cylinder for my 89 740 (non ABS). I have opened it up from the rear, taken out the piston/spring with the seals and drained out the brake fluid (very clean). Now what?
Should I store the piston and MC separated or should I install the piston?
Should I add new brake fluid or store it dry?
I am storing this in case my MC fails in the future (has 145K miles right now on the OEM).
Thanks in advance
El Raidman
