Hard shifting 745 Turbo Automatic 700

My '89 745 Turbo automatic is very hard shifting at moderate throttle opening. By hard shifting, I mean upward gear changes are very pronounced, not smooth at all - it almost 'bangs' in to gear. The other issue is that with light pedal pressure, it often doesn't seem to want to upshift, you have to almost completely lift off the accelerater pedal to get it to upshift or you end up driving at a too high RPM. When you put pedal to the metal, it shifts fine but is rarely driven that way. My indie said this model is hard shifting and made an adjustment to the downshift cable, but this has not changed the performance. I would be interested to hear from other owners of this model to see if you have experienced similar performance. I have flushed the transmission fluid, but was thinking about doing it again with synthetic this time instead of dino. Thanks for any input.
