interior light problem revisited 700 1989

I appreciate the advice given towards the repair of my interior lights, however, it seems I have given the wrong symptoms. After reading the manual, and now knowing the proper light switch positions, I find that the lights stay on in all but the constant off position. That is, they do not turn off when the doors are closed. Makes me wonder--"how many new volvo owners does it take to change a lightbulb"?
