Rough Idle and Ignition on '89 240 DL 200 1989

'89 240DL sedan has trouble starting..often about 5-8 second ignition to start, and that's also with pumping the pedal. Wont start only with the key. Also has trouble with the idle.. very rough at stops and dies occasionally. Also..check engine light is on. Please help it will be greatly appreciated!
