Still having trouble...need more things to try. 200 1988

Starter engages, but will not fire up!

Ok so here is the scoop. It all started when I changed the Valve cover gasket and the oil last weekend. I put back all the straps and cords. Before I started the engine I did change out the Fuel Pump relay (White) simply because it is nearing that time and didn't want to be stranded or have to worry about it later. After all this...no start

Now today I have re-grounded (sanded down to metal to metal) the fuel grounds and the engine ground on the Valve cover. I replaced the in-tank pump (ipd sez level 3...ha it was easier than I thought), still no start

other things I have done, unplugged AMM, I do have spark, I do have wet plugs after cranking so fuel and electricity is getting there. The cap, rotor, wires are less than 2 months old.

Is there something I did wrong during all this? I am bewildered right now. It has alway's fired right up and fired up strong everytime previous.

Sorry for the long post, all advice is appreciated
Thanks everyone!
Chuck

P.S. frequently on start up the car has made a quick 1-2 sec 'grr - grind' type of noise coming from what sounds like the left front side...I don't know what this was or if it had anything to do with my current problem.
