now that's it's warm out, car running really bad 200 1978

I took my '78 244 out for a drive today. After several miles, the engine would hesitate throughout the driving range, and eventually hesitate more and more until it died. It almost seemed as if it were overheating, but the temp. gauge never went far above N. I had a similar problem in January, and cleaned the control pressure reg., new cap, rotor plugs and wires, cleaned throttle body, checked air sensor plate, cleaned airfilter, checked for vacuum leaks, and it ran fine until now. Someone please tell me if the cpr is known to get dirty again this quickly. Also, there is a hose coming out of the engine that doesn't connect to anything on the other end, and I can't find anywhere where it would go.
thank you
