Throttle body gasket missing!! 200 1988

I tried cleaning out the throttle body of my 88 245 this weekend because I was having trouble with my idle loping. I also had problems with hesitation. After removing the throttle body I noticed it had no gasket installed. Could this have contributed to my problems. I put one on after cleaning. Is it also recommended to clean the intake manifold. How do I do it.
