ignition lock/switch 200 1983

I am the new owner of a well used '83 244. The prior owner had problems with the ignition lock/switch. Currently the switch is unbolted from the lock so the car can be operated. The steering wheel lock is working but the rod actuating the switch is missing. The car came with an extra column lock body with key tumbler, no key.

Can the rod be extracted from the loose lock body and inserted to the existing in place lock body?

Thanks for any help I get. This is a new experience for me, I am used to fussing with an old W123 Mercedes.
