Bad Alt. ground???????????? 700

My alternator mysteriously stopped working after installing a new KS, FI temp sensor, and flame trap I took it out and had it tested and they say it is good.
I pulled the regulator, and the brushes had alot of life left, it seemed. I remember that the Alt. ground wire was a little ragged and I thought that I might have knocked the life out of the last few dangling copper threads when I had my arms stuffed down there in the engine compartment. Could this be my problem????
Could a corroded or inadequate ground cause it to barely work at idle but better at
higher speeds???
