'83 245 Electrical(?) problems 200 1983

About a month, maybe more, ago, I pulled my '83 245 wagon into the yard after a day of driving, shut it down, went on to other things. The next day I went out to go somewhere else in it, and no start. Checked the plugs, changed out the distributor cap and rotor, checked the fuses, et al I could find, and finally determined it was one of two (or more) relays. Yes, checked for the fuel pump working, it does, very well, will arc a stream a good 15 feet. Went to a local auto parts store, bought two more relays of same type as I thought they were, but nada, nothing doing. A friend of mine drove down, checked all the wiring with an ohm meter, finally traced problem to Jetronic unit. Went up the road to a junkyard, could find another with the same serial numbers. Called Autobahn in Fort Worth, give cost of a paltry $824 to replace with new. Checked with Swedish Auto Parts place in NJ, got another Jetronic unit in about a week for about a 10th of the new price. But, guess what? Yep, you guessed correctly, nada, nothing is working yet. So, now, I'm at a total loss as to what to do next. Oh, nearly forgot one other thing, same thing happened a couple of years ago on a day trip to San Antonio. Got towed to a garage, fellow replaced a relay somewhere, got charged about $150, but I slept in my own bed that night. Can anyone give me any insight on what the problem really is? Sorry for the diatribe, but better to get it all out there at the forefront. Regards, Fletch
