240 Idle air valve and lumpy idle

Quick question about the idle air valve. I have an 86 240 (4spd) that has had a lumphy idle for about 4 years. It runs great and gets decent mileage (mid-20s).

Yesterday, as a premptive move, I replaced the idle air valve (with a new Bosch) and cleaned the throttle body. Still have the engine shaking lumpy idle.

The orientation of the old valve had the air flow direction pointing towards the engine and into the hose going to the breather assembly, I bieleve. My thought was last night is that maybe the old one was not in correctly and I followed the pattern of a mis-installed part? Thus, the air flow the way I have it now, comes from the intake air bellows secondary hose through the idle control valve and on towards the hose near the engine block and breather area. Is that the correct flow direction???

Does this sound plausible or should I start looking at the fuel pressure reg or injectors. This car runs great except for idle. The only other thought is the pre-pump and hose in the tank - I've never done that, but I do have a new one on the shelf.

Any thoughts or ideas?
