940 Fuel tank access hole, help/hints? 900 1993

Hi all, I was wondering if anyone had any hints on how to remove the large plastic cap from the plastic fuel tank. The car is a 93 944T, and I suspect the in-tank rubber hose is shot. I have removed all of the hoses from the access port of the tank, but I can not turn the large ring at all.

I tried a strap wrench, but it is made of plastic (sears), and I was at the point that I thought I might break the tool or the strap. No go. I tried wacking it with a brass drift, but it just deformed the plastic ridges. I'll try to find a suitable piece of wood with a rectangular cross section, but I don't have any at the moment.

Any other ways to get this done? Would PBlaster do anything or hurt anything?

And will it be difficult to get the in-tank unit back in and properly aligned? Any tips on that?

Thanks for any input you may have!

Greg
