Swap 1987 to 1984 outside rearview mirrors 200 1984

Hi -

My 1984 245GL has the "karate chop adjuster" outside RV mirors. The RH one is a real PITA to get anywhere near right. Now I have access to both o/s mirrors from a 1987 240.

But - how to get them off the doors? It's not quickly obvious to me. Must the trim panel be removed?

And - or course - will they fit in the holes in the 1984 doors? If not, what to do?
