Other causes for fuel pump noise? In tank seems OK. 900 1993

Hey all, I finally got into the gas tank of the 944T, thanks for the advice on that one! Now, I was thinking that the rubber hose in the tank might be shot, but it looks completely fine. The in-tank pump has been running, I could hear it in the filler tube.

But the main pump has been making a lot of noise, it is high pitched and loud. The engine is difficult to start, but runs ok. Can I rule out the in tank stuff as being ok? What should I look at next?

Thanks in advance for your ideas!

Greg
