Headlight swap 200

My '87 wagon currently has the nasty yellow lights. I haven't tried to clean them, but I'm wondering if my twin rectangular lamp setup from my '81 (which is now a parts car) could be swapped over. Does the twin set up produce less light than a properly operating "big honker?" I'm sure I'd have to adapt some wiring, but that shouldn't be a problem. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks.
