82 K-Jet! (the worst traps) Can't get the flame trap back onto the oil trap. Help! 200

If you're used to LH injection flame traps and have never seen the ones on K-jets, consider yourself lucky. I'm having a really chore trying to get this one back on.

I removed the distributor cap and the big rubber sphere that was right under the throttle body (by the way, is it OK to have a little film of oil in there?), so I have pretty good access to the flame trap itself.

HOWEVER, there seems to be a very hard hose meandering right over the oil trap tube that the flame trap needs to hook up to. See, when I removed the old flame trap, it wasn't even attached to the oil trap! I'm assuming this hose isn't supposed to be in that spot, so let me tell you where it comes from. It's attached--via a right angle fitting--to whatever it is that is between the air meter and the firewall. Yeah, it's this big metal thing that seems to be bracketed to the air meter. It has a bunch of hoses coming off of it, and one of them is hogging my flame trap's spot! No fair. Sorry I don't know what this part is, but I think I'm going to have to remove it.

Any suggestions?
