codes? 200 1990

Hey Adam,

Like flint said, it's in the features section under 700/900 FAQ's. But a few things about the pre-94 240s...Volvo started putting the OBD's in the 89 240's and continued with the same system through the 93 240. In other models they installed an updated OBD. The 240's OBD is fairly crude and limited, but can be of some help, occasionally they are prone to give false info, so verify before digesting the given code sequence. These early units have six ports, but only two are opperable. The IGN and F/I systems are the only to linked to the port. The SRS codes can be read by grounding the SRS port located between the 4-way emergency flasher switch and the rear window defrost switch on the center dash. You pry off the cover and connect a wire to the port recpticle and ground the wire to activate the blinking SRS light sequence on the insturment panel with the idot lights. More explicit directions can be obtained in the features /700/900 FAQ's /SRS area.

Now back to the OBD, FI and IGN are the only two systems that will code on your car's OBD. You can look in the box's port hole and see the two that have metal probe recepticles. Simply remove the black plastic cover, disconnect the test probe lead and insert into the probe test hole with a recepticle ( #2 and #6 if I recall) press the little black button and note the red indicator light illuminate, release test button and codes will be transmitted through the lights blinking sequence. Note that you need three numbers in your codes. The light will blink with 4 sec intervals to seperate the three numbers, and one second intervals to indicate the individual code number. Holding the test button down for more than five seconds will clear the codes (or disconnect the batt cable for ten second). This is a good way to verify the code, by clearing, then starting the car to see if it will reactivate the sequence. Sounds complicated the first time, but it's really pretty easy the second or third try.
