Some of you who read the 120 and 140 forums know of Matt B. He had an '65 544 he was looking to get rid of and I had a '67 122 wagon rear end he wanted. We agreed on a swap. So I drove 400 miles to his place and delivered the rear end and brought some parts the 544 needed to make it go down the road. I needed a lower front control arm (old one had busted it's welds), a couple of SU's, fuel pump, taillight lenses, and battery. Being the Volvo glutton I am, I had all this stuff laying around so went up there and installed it last night. The car hadn't run in about a year but we put all the parts on (in about 2 hours) and it fired right up! We took it for a little test drive down a county road and I was really impressed. The car has IPD sways on it and really handles! Body and interior are very rough but mechanicals all work great.
Now the scary part. I'm going back in 6 weeks to pick this beauty up. It's got a B18 in good condition and an M40. I've got to drive 50 miles down I-25 where people were easilly running 85MPH yesterday when I drove that stretch. Anyone got one of these with a B18 and know if I can keep from being rear ended? The wife's gonna trail me in the 744T with 2 kids in the car. I'm wondering if I can keep it up to 70-75 and or if she should turn the blinkers on and we should run about 60-65 which I know the car will do. I'm already thinking about a Sunday morning pick up date to avoid problems. Any thoughts on this? Whoo Boy, I can't wait to get this home and start drivin it!
(add '65 544 to my sig. list)
