oil filter

The Volvo oil filters have a speing loaded bypass that closes when the engine shuts off to prevent dirty oil from getting back into the engine. they cost about $9.00. You only save about $4.00 if you get fram purolator, or bosch. Bosch is probably the best of these, but Volvo in my opinion is a better bet. This is a good thing. K&N probably makes the best filters, but they cost about $16.00

Haynes I think makes better manuals. they are better written and have more pictures. However, many volvo's have no manual from haynes, such as the 960. Chilton is not great. I have one for my 960, and did some work with a volvo mechanic friend, and we found it sovague and general that the book was useless for detailed work. Other things were just plain wrong. They provide an ok overview. You will get more from this web site, and if you really want to know more, buy the real one from volvo for a couple of hundred.
