Connecting rod bearing replacement and piston Rings (w/out removing block) 700 1989

For a 740 gl (with B230)Has anyone out there ever replaced their connecting rod bearings and piston rings WITHOUT removing the block from the vehicle? It appears as if you could drop the oil pan, pick-up frpm oil pump, remove the head, undo the Connceting rod caps and knock the pistons and Connceting rods out with a piece of wood, up through the top of the motor for replacement/rebuild.

But is there enough room to work? Could I torque the Connecting rods back on from all cylinders underneath the vehicle?

This seems a little tricky. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Jim
