88' 240 Tranny question 200 1988

Hey all,

Been loving my new Volvo, just had a quick question about the tranny, and how it is shifting. It is an auto, and 1-2 shifts nice and firm, 2-3 comes quick and is more of a slide. It seems to shift ok, and the RPMs do not increase, just not nearly as firm as 1-2. And lastly, 3-4 is firm also, I assume this is the convertor locking up? Should there be any concern over this? I was planning on changing the fluid, and filter, is there any additive that I should be using to help the tranny live a long life? Also, what tranny fluid is recommended?

Thanks in advance!
